All About Windshield Wipers -

A windshield wiper is used to remove rain  and debris from the windshield, a laminated safety glass.

The wiper consists of an  arm  pivoting  at  one end (attached to a motor), and  a  long  rubber blade attached to the other. The blade is swung back and forth  over  the  glass,  pushing  water and debris from its surface.

Rubber is the most important part of the wiper blades. The sun's ultraviolet rays; automatic car washes;  and extended periods of non-use take their toll on the wiper blade’s life. Signs that it’s time for a replacement include dry,  cracked  or  split  rubber;  or  damage  to  the  wiper  arm  assembly,  which  result in streaking, chatter  or scratching on the windshield.   Wiper blades should be changed  every  six to  twelve  months,  depending  on environmental conditions and use.
